All around athlete Alex Romero is ready for her last season as a Bullpup to put her knee pads back on and step on the court. Romero is a setter for the McPherson High School volleyball team. Going into her senior year, Romero has set a substantial goal not only for her, but also her team. “One of my personal goals is to reach 100 assists on the season. Another goal for me would be to go to state. I have been in the past but going my senior year would be so amazing,” Romero told VYPE.
Romero stated the one element of volleyball she worked the hardest on during club volleyball was her serving as she felt serving was a struggle for her during her junior season of high school volleyball. She also continued to play in tournaments over the summer and was involved in a weights and conditioning program. After all the practice and strength training, Romero is most excited to play in the home tournament. Romero said, “This is the first tournament of the season and will show us where we are at and what we will need to work on throughout the rest of the season.”
During her junior season, Romero was named AVCTL division 3 player of the year. Now as a senior, Romero feels the role of being a good leader for her team as she is the only senior on the team. However, her leadership role does not stop at volleyball, she will continue to finish out her senior year playing basketball for the Bullpups in the winter and softball in the spring. After graduation, Romero plans to attend Hutchinson Community College for cosmetology.
