VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
My main goals for this year, besides finishing my senior year, is to go to state in tennis and be named to the All -League team in softball. I’d also like to find a college to continue my education and to play softball. I did make it to state in tennis, placing 12th, and will be continuing my education at Southeast Community College in Beatrice Nebraska on a softball scholarship. I also want to enjoy my senior year with my friends and family.
VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
I’d say the most fun I’ve had besides playing my two favorite sports would be the Christmas party we had with my travel softball team. We went to Axe It Up Hutch and learned how to throw axes. It was a lot of fun hanging out with the team and all our parents. I’ve also had lots of fun just hanging out with my friend, going out to eat, riding around and just talking.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
I would have to say Mrs. Bergstrom even though I didn’t get to have her as a teacher in second grade because she taught that year in Marquette. She has been involved in my life for a long time. She was my 4-H leader when I first started 4-H and she always makes things fun. She is supportive and is always willing to help out and listen. Now I get to be an aide for her and help her prepare things for her classroom. She is famous for always having chocolate in her classroom that she shares when you stop in and say hi.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
I’d have to say it was a couple of summers ago when I played in a softball tournament with my travel team. I caught seven and a half games and we won the championship game. I was exhausted but it was great. Another favorite memory was when Coach McClure told me last year that I made honorable mention on the All -League team for softball. That was a goal of mine and it was exciting to reach that goal. Of course, I will always remember the phone call from the softball coach in Beatrice offering me a scholarship to play softball.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
I would have to say that Claire Broxterman has made the biggest impression on me. She was the varsity catcher when I was a freshman. She was kind to everyone and always encouraging. She took me under her wings and taught me a lot about catching. I had never really had a catching coach before so what I knew I had taught myself. She was willing to work with me even outside of practice on the weekend and give me pointers. She also wrote me a letter full of advice when she graduated. I still have that letter and reread the advice she gave me.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
I love my teammates. We have a lot of fun together. I like to make younger teammates feel comfortable and encourage them like others did when I was a freshman on the team.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?
If I could pick a place for summer vacation, I’d go to Wyoming to the Cheyenne Frontier Days with my parents and my friends. We would spend time at the rodeo and go to the concerts and maybe go on a trail ride.
VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?
I’d love to spend it all on myself or buy a new softball bat, but I would donate a portion of it to an organization that was raising money. I would buy some of the things on my Amazon wishlist and take my parents out to eat. I’d also take my friends out to eat and have fun.
VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
I do participate in several community service projects. I help with the TNR program with the stray cats in the community. My family and I have built a feeding station and a winter shelter for the cats that we feed in the community. I also take part in several community service projects through 4-H. Some of my favorite service projects involve our local nursing home. I’ve sold seasonal crafts and donated money to the nursing home to help with the residents Christmas party and have also created craft kits for the residents in the past.
