Q&A with Inman’s Jesse Ballard – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Gateway Mortgage

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

My personal Goals for the year are to finish up my Physical Therapy from my ACL tear I had back in November, and be the best “coach” I can be until I am cleared to play. And to help the team out as much as I can and use the knowledge that I have learned from playing baseball and use that to help out some of our young players. Another goal of mine is too get a chance to play college baseball which has always been a goal of mine since I was a kid and maybe this ACL surgery shows some of the coaches how motivated I am to play the game that I love by being a mentor and coach to the underclass man and teaching them the skills and the knowledge of the game that I’ve gained from the coaching I’ve had since I started playing in the 1st grade.

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?

The most fun I’ve had playing baseball in the past year was last season when we started the season 10-0 and we were all having a blast. Another fun moment was when towards the end of the year when Brant Mikulecky our ACE last year was when he broke the school record for strikeouts in a season and I was catching him and it’s always fun knowing you contributed into a school record. Another thing was we had to drive to McPherson everyday for practice on a short bus because we were getting a brand new baseball field last year, and we all jammed out to music and all got hype before each practice and it made our team closer as a family.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?

Mr. Pfannenstiel is my school counselor and he has had a huge impact in my life and the things that I do because he wants to best for everyone and wants the best for you in the future and he helps with everything whether it’s college or future job opportunities he is always there for you and always makes time to help you for whatever you need. He helps everyone get college scholarships and keeps you up to date with everything college wise. He’s been my biggest supporter with my knee and helping me get through everything because he’s seen similar things in the past.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

The best memory that I’ve had playing sports in high school was my sophomore year I had gotten hurt and missed the whole year for football and we went to state which was bitter sweet and I came back the next year and started and we went back to state but came up short but it was just so fun starting on a very good football team.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

The teammate that has made the biggest impression on me was Carter Brown my freshman year and the reason is because I was very inexperienced and he helped me learn more about High School ball and taught me a bunch of things about catching and fielding a ball that I have never learned which has been a big part in my High School success.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite part of being on this team is learning to be a leader because I’m the only Senior that has multiple years of Varsity experience and using that to be a leader and teach the underclass man everything that I can is a great part of being on this team.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?

I would go to Mexico and go Zip Lining and then go to the beach and I would take my best friend Teagan Froese who has been there for me since I transferred to Inman my 8th grade year.

VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?

If you gave me $500 dollars I would probably give it back to the Inman baseball program because we are very underfunded and they could use the money to buy some new equipment which is very needed.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?

At Inman we have a school wide community service project that everyone is apart of and we have that once a year and I used to do 4-H and we did a community service day with that too so I do a decent amount of Community Service.
