Playing tennis in the number one singles spot for the McPherson Bullpups is junior Maryn Sandbo. Sandbo would like to carry on the tradition of a state return this year. If Sandbo qualifies for state, this will be her third year in a row to make the state tournament. In the last two years, The Bullpups had all six players make the state tournament, another goal Sandbo hopes for the team.
During the season, Sandbo doesn’t have any specific tournaments or competition she is most looking forward to, but Sandbo does hope to finish the season with a winning record. “I’m just hoping to end with a good record like last year.”
To prepare for this year’s tennis season, Sandbo attended two different tennis camps. One was held in Newton at Bethal College and the other was held at the end of summer at McPherson College.
Sandbo has improved her season finish over the last two years. During freshman year, Sandbo made it to the state tournament, but didn’t place. Sophomore year, Sandbo improved to placing tenth at the state tournament. An improvement and accomplishment Sandbo can be proud of.
Only a junior, Sandbo still has time to decide on what to do after graduation, but right now, Sandbo is interested in both Kansas State and Wichita State with the goal of becoming a nurse practitioner.
Other than tennis in the fall, Sandbo competes in sports during every season. In the winter, Sandbo competes in basketball for The Bullpups. During the spring months, Sandbo competes in track and field.
