Smoky Valley’s Per Nelson – Tennis Spotlight – Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy

Just finishing up his senior season of tennis, Per Nelson shared with Vype Magazine about the season. Nelson played on the number one doubles team along with partner Nate Nyquist. Going into the season, Nelson and his partner Nyquist wanted to be set in the number one doubles spot for the season. Nelson and his partner Nyquist also set a goal to finish the season at state with the win. Although the dynamic duo did not win state, they finished the season off well. At regionals, the pair placed second and at the state tournament, the two came home with an eleventh-place finish.

Nelson was most looking forward to the state meet as the season progressed. Not only is this a tournament most athletes look forward to, but this will also be the last time Nelson competes as a Viking.

To prepare for his final season of high school tennis, Nelson played club tennis over the summer months. He participated in weights over the summer months as well. He also just hit the ball around with the rest of the team. Getting practice time in with his friends.

When asked what Nelson was most proud of in his tennis accomplishments, his response pointed to his team first. He shared that he was most proud of his team when they won regionals while he was a junior.

In addition to tennis, Nelson is also involved in band, orchestra, choir and theater at the high school. He is also a member of the National Honor Society at Smoky Valley. During the fall, Nelson plans to attend Fort Hays State University and major in accounting.
