Canton-Galva Eagles will spend one last season with Dylan Cherry on the baseball field. Cherry who mostly plays in the first base position is diverse for the team because he can also fill in for third base and pitcher when needed.
Cherry praised his team for their talent and shared the team’s goal to make it to state. “We have the guys and the talent to do it this year, but we just need to keep working hard every day and grow as a team.” Last year’s season turned into an upset when injuries overran the team and ultimately hurt the Eagle’s chances of making state. While the team goals are critical to success, Cherry has individual goals set as well. “My personal goals for myself are to make an all-state first team, and do everything possible to win.” Last season, Cherry was named honorable mention, and his motivation to improve his game and set his goals higher only grew.
Cherry definitely has his eyes on his goals because of his dedication for improvement during the offseason. “I worked out every day and finished every workout with at least thirty minutes of hitting or throwing drills, which I could tell really help by the way I performed the first week of practice.”
Other than playing baseball in the spring, Cherry has participated in football in the fall and does weight lifting. Cherry is also a member of the community youth group. After graduation, Cherry has plans to enter the workforce and be a welder. Cherry already took advantage of college classes offered during his high school career and is currently certified to weld.
