Smoky Valley’s Connor Barnes – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Bluestem PACE

Senior Connor Barnes from Smoky Valley High School is making a name for himself on the mat. In preparation for his final year of high school wrestling, Barnes spent time in the offseason working on different wrestling moves to make his senior season of wrestling even more successful.

Since Barnes has been preparing himself for his senior year with extra practice, Barnes will hopefully reach his goal he has set for himself at the state meet. Barnes told VYPE Magazine he would like to improve his placing at State this year and finish off his time as a Viking with a winning season.

Barnes said one thing that he is most proud of in his wrestling is how far he got at the state meet last year. Which has motived him to reach for a bigger goal this year. Last year, Barnes underestimated his talent on the mat and placed higher than he expected. Which turned into a wrestling achievement he is most proud of.

When asked what tournaments Barnes is most looking forward to, he responded to VYPE Magazine that he looks forward to every match he wrestles. “You learn something from every match you are in.”

Other than wrestling, Barnes races as a hobby, but does not participate in any other sports or activities at the high school. After graduation this spring, Barnes plans to attend Salina Area Technical College. Barnes is planning to become an automotive tech and after finishing at Salina Tech, Barnes will plan to start his career in the automotive industry.
