McPherson High School has been a driving force for girl’s wrestling. This year senior Hunter Wilson is one leader who is encouraging her team to hit a big goal. “We have the goal to be the first wrestling team to raise a banner in the roundhouse and win state as a team.” In addition to a banner in the roundhouse,
Wilson has several goals of her own she would like to accomplish this year. “This season I have a big goal for myself and I am working towards being a 1st place state champion in the 155-pound weight class. Another individual goal I have is to beat the girls takedown record for McPherson High School.”
Already halfway through the season, Wilson told VYPE Magazine some of her favorite tournaments so far have been the Kretzer Classic in McPherson and The Christmas Clash in Great Bend. To finish out the season, Wilson is excited for post season action with Regionals and State.
Before the season even started, Wilson has put more effort into preparations for her senior season. “I went to many camps, tournaments, started cross fit training, started ‘Wrestling Mindset’ with a mindset trainer, and did preseason practices with a college team.” Over the summer, Wilson attended many camps and competed in several tournaments. A favorite tournament over the summer for Wilson was Mid-Summer Mat Bash. “I wrestled on Team Kansas, a dual team with girls from all over the state of Kansas, in a big tournament in Texas.”
Besides wrestling, Wilson also competes in track and golf, and is a member of KAY club. After graduation, Wilson plans to attend Kansas State University to study sports medicine and kinesiology. Her ultimate career goal is to become an athletic trainer eventually opening a training gym and rehabilitation treatment center.
