Hunter Mendez a defensive midfielder for McPherson High School soccer team wants his team to return to state this year. Not only return to state, but an opportunity to play in the championship game. “Goals I have for the team is to not only make it to state, but to play in the state championship final.”
To help his team get to the championship game, Mendez spent the offseason increasing his training. “I went to CCC soccer camp over the summer.” Mendez and his teammates help each other get better by training together. “A good amount of teammates and friends would meet up randomly over the summer just to play soccer together.” In addition to this training, Mendez competed in a 3v3 tournament and a 9v9 tournament.
During last year’s post season, Mendez is proud of two goals he scored during the post season. “I scored the first and the last goal of the post season.” This season a goal Mendez has set for himself is reading the field better. He also wants to find ways to make more threatening passes to his teammates.
Mendez is not done competing for The Bullpups after soccer season is over. During the winter, he will participate in swim team. In the spring, while he used to participate in track, he will finish out his high school athletic career on the tennis courts. He is a member of FCA and Scholar’s Bowl at the high school.
After graduation in the spring, Mendez is planning to attend Central Christian College and play soccer. He is currently unsure of his major.
