VYPE interviewed McPherson Debate team member Sam Houston to hear about his accomplishments.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
My personal goals for the year are fairly basic. I would just like to improve in my activities and end my time at high school off on a high note.
VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
The most fun I have had in the last year was going to Europe.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
My Favorite teacher right now is my ELO teacher Mrs. Keller. She is one of the most personable teachers I know and is somebody who I can confidently say actually wants to listen and talk with her students.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
My favorite athletic memory is when I was at a tennis meet my freshman year and dove for a ball and scraped up my knees really badly. Still to this day everybody else thinks I tripped and fell going for the ball.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
A member who left a big impression on me was a guy named Kevin Xu. He just changed my whole outlook on the activities I was in and helped me progress a lot in a short amount of time.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
My favorite part about being on the team is the payoff of everybody’s hard work.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?
I would go to the UK with my friends.
VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?
I would buy a plane ticket, to wherever I could get for $500.
VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
Yes, I enjoy helping my community.
VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?
Debate and foreniscs. I’m involved with them because I think they have long-term value in what skills they teach, and debate and forensics are something my family has previously been heavily involved with.
VYPE: Are you involved in academic excellence activities such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, or other academic clubs?
I’m not currently involved in any academic clubs.
