Q&A with Smoky Valley’s Gus Griffith – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by WSU Tech

VYPE recently spoke with Smoky Valley’s Gus Griffith to learn more about him.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

My last goal for this year is to make it to state in discus, so I can make the most of the time left I have with my friends.

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?

The most fun I’ve had this year was football team dinners. We would have team dinners every Thursday before our football games where we would talk for hours then watch Thursday night football.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?

My favorite teacher would be Mr. Schneider. He would make classes and practice fly by so much faster because of how fun he is to be around.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

My favorite athletic memory was pancaking a Nickerson defensive lineman into the end zone in front of the entire Bethany football team.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

The teammate that has left the biggest impression on me is Karson Phil. Karson has had a lot of season ending injuries but he has still worked extremely hard to be one of the best athletes I know.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite park of being on the track team has been the Weighted 4×1. The entire team gets hype and me and the other throwers have only lost once this year.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?

If I could go anywhere for summer vacation I would go to the mountains in Colorado. I’ve wanted to try snowboarding for a long time and I think it would be a great experience.

VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?

I would probably go out to eat with my friends and buy a bunch of food.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?

Once a year our school splits up our seminar classes around town to help people with community service, and during the winter all of the winter athletes went to Bethany home for Valentine’s Day.
