Senior for Elyria Christian School Johnny Unruh is focused on being a leader of the Eagles this season. “I’m focusing on becoming the best leader and team player I can be. I want to become one of the best defenders in the state. For the team, I want us to be successful and go all the way and be able to work great together.”
To start the season off, the Eagles play rival school Moundridge. A game Unruh is looking forward to playing. “It will be a good challenge and will force us all to work hard if we want to make it out with the win.” In addition to the opening game against Moundridge, Unruh has other parts of the season he is looking forward to. “I am also looking forward to our in season tournaments and post season.”
After Unruh’s junior season, he has been working on his defensive game, and on driving and finishing. After last season, Unruh has bragging right moving into this season. “I was second team all Wheat State League and third team class 1A D2. Honorable mention class 1A D2 all state.”
When not on the court, Unruh stays busy with other activities. In the spring, he participates in track, he has been a class officer, and helps out at the school when needed. After graduation in the spring, Unruh has narrowed down his search to either Hutch or Kansas State, but if given an offer to play ball in college, he is open to those options as well. He would like to major in business.
