Q&A with McPherson’s Jayla McLeod – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Gateway Mortgage

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
My personal goals this season are to just contribute on the court any way my coaches and teammates need me to and to put forth my best effort always.

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
The most fun I have had in the last year would be just any practices with my teammates, all the pre/post-game moments, team dinners, and beating some of our best opponents.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
My favorite teacher would be my 1st grade teacher Mrs. Hoffman. She was super nice and always had us do fun hands-on activities.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
My favorite athletic moment was playing Rock Creek 2nd round of Substate my junior year, punching our ticket to the state tournament. This game I had 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 steals.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
A teammate who has left the biggest impact on me would be the other 3 seniors I’ve grown up playing basketball with. Reanna Eilrich, Madison Moors, and Karter Alvord. All of those girls have been great teammates the last 7 years, all great ball players, great leaders on and off the court, and I love seeing them encourage the younger kids on our team every day.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
My favorite part about being on this team is how much we all have fun together. I genuinely love being around all of them every day, pushing each other, holding each other accountable, and getting better together. I also love how much each coach on our staff always pushes us to be better and holds all of us to a high standard.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?
If I could go any place for a summer vacation I would go to Hawaii.  I would take my mom, Anji, and sister Adri.

VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?

If I were given $500.00 with 24 hours to spend it, I would go to Sephora.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
I participated in small community service projects all throughout high school around the McPherson Community.
